Traffic and List Building – Social Bookmarking

Hi everybody

Today we’re going to analyze the traffic we can get using Social Bookmarking and other techniques related with Social Marketing. This is one of the techniques I have less experience with, so I ask you to leave your comments and help me and other readers to understand exactly how this works and the benefits we can get from it.

Social Bookmarking

Social BookmarkingSocial Bookmarking is the practice of saving bookmarks to a public Web site and “tagging” them with keywords.  Bookmarking, on the other hand, is the practice of saving the address of  a Web site you wish to visit in the future on your computer.

To create a collection of social bookmarks, you register with a social bookmarking site, which lets you store bookmarks, add tags of your choice, and designate individual bookmarks as public or private.

With this in mind, when you bookmark your posts and blog to the Social Bookmarking sites you’re putting your blog/website out there in front of millions of people, increasing your visibility ten notches and getting you more branding.

Also, because your bookmarks can be public, as more and more people read your bookmarked blog post/ web article and vote for it, the more popular it becomes & the traffic to your site increases. This highlights the importance of creating good content that is valuable for your readers.

Each of these Popular Social Bookmarking Sites see tremendous volumes of traffic on a daily basis, if your blog/website has good content on it, chances are that several of these users will link to your content, thus getting you relevant links which will ultimately lead to an increase in your Rankings in the Search Engines.

One way to give even more exposition to your posts is to facilitate your readers to bookmark your posts by themselves. This can be accomplish by using plug-ins in your blog allowing the reader to easily bookmark your posts on their favorite social bookmark sites. There are a lot of plug-ins that you can use to do this, like the one you can find at the end of this post.

Social Bookmarking plays an important role in traffic generation and also in SEO because the links from the social bookmark sites can be seen as valuable backlinks by the search engines.

Social Bookmarking is one technique of a bigger strategy that is your Social Presence.

Social Marketing

Social Marketing is a way to increase the traffic to your website or blog by the means of your Social Presence. Being present in high ranked social sites like Facebook, Twitter or MySpace, among others, can drive you a massive amount of traffic.

For every post you write in your blog, you can publish it, or let your friends or followers know about it, in your Facebook page or you can “twitter” it. When people find that you have a new post they will visit your site to read it, thus increasing the traffic to you site or blog and being exposed to the offers you have there for them.

Also your friends or followers can re-tweet or make a comment in their own walls, thus you message reaches more and more people.

Just remember, create good content, provide value, even if it is just a little bit (you don’t have to reveal a new science discovery with every post), create a Social Presence in the Internet and traffic will flow.

Keep in touch 😉

Thanks for this post. Just started using social bookmarking myself.

Can bea a pain to sign up to all the sites to begin with, but once you have, like you said, it can be great for traffic generation and backlinks to your site.

    Very informative post.

Reach new heights Jorge and keep working hard.

  2. Jorge-
There are some great plugins available for free that automatically add your blog posts to a tweet. Since I have started doing this, I have noticed that my followers have increased due to me being more active.

    Hi Jorge,

Hey, I love the blog you’re doing a great job.

I really need to do more of what you’re recommending in this post … i tend to stick with just Twitter when there’s a whole load of other sites I could be using, as you mention here.

Great information, thanks for writing this.

      Hi Paul

It’s easy to stick with only one method especially if you’re doing everything by yourself and not outsourcing some of the tasks. There isn’t so much time.

But there are some tools can can help to automatize some of the social bookmarking tasks, some are free, the best are paid.

In a near future (1-2 weeks) I’m going to start a page here with resources and I’ll post there the tools.

      Thanks for your comment.

      Hi Bryan.

When you put a method in auto pilot you can look at another. After some time, you can master several methods and have all in auto pilot increasing the exposition of your blog.

thanks for sharing the list. The list of social bookmarks is growing more and more. I think that is good, so there are so much possibilities to get a backlink for a website. The problem might be that the link has not much value like one or two years ago.

      Hi “Air conditioning” expert.

You are right, everything changes at high speed. There are a bunch of new social bookmarking sites, some of the old disappeared and other are still around. But the principle remains the same, Social Bookmarking must be in the list of SEO activities to help ranking your pages and attract traffic.
