Traffic and List Building

Hello all.

Yesterday was a very interesting day in terms of looking for sources of traffic to my blog/website. We’ve got access to the Traffic Tornados training in Alex Jeffreys Coaching Program, which I devoured, and also I assisted a webinar called Turbo Traffic System, provided by Dean Holland and Adam Spiel, also students of Alex Coaching previous editions.

This is my challenge now, and the challenge to all of my fellow students in Marketing With Alex 3.0: getting traffic to our blogs and Profits Pulling Platform.

I have this commitment to post here what I’ve been discovering regarding Traffic Strategies and although I cannot post today all I’ve learned, basically because there are a lot of things to learn yet and, mostly, to put in action, I wanna describe to you all what I’ve discovered so far.

Traffic and List Building – How to drive traffic and build a list

Ok, we’ve learned that the money is the list so we need to build a list. Basically, the easiest way to do it is to provide value to other people, offering services and products that help people to accomplish something. For instance, an ebook explaining how to start in Affiliate Marketing, a video showing how to setup a blog or a service to help people writing articles.

If you provide value, chances are that people want to hear from you and they may subscribe your mail list or newsletter so they can receive information from you, since that information is important to them.

If the product or service you’re providing is for free, with no cost, so much the better, because in that case you drop one of the barriers for most of potential subscribers: the cost.

Now that you’ve setup your offer you need to drive traffic to your offer. I found that the traffic strategies can be splited in 5 major categories:

  • Giveaways and Ad Swaps
  • Blog and Forum Comments
  • Article Writing and Press Releases
  • Social Bookmarking
  • Video Marketing

Another way to drive traffic to your offer is by means of SEO (Search Engine Optimization) which it’s also a traffic strategy but for different objectives, mainly to rank your website or blog in the Search Engines and get organic traffic from people that are searching in the internet for something that you offer.

I’ll explain briefly, as far as my knowledge allows it, the characteristics of each of the strategies and, without putting any in action yet, what I believe are the pros and cons of each one.

Giveaways and Ad Swaps

In giveaways you prepare an offer, a product or service, that you can offer for free, and then you participate in a Giveaway event. In the MWA Forum there is a section with some giveaway events going live. You must prepare a squeeze page, which is a web page where you capture the name and the email of the people interested in your offer, and if you have a good offer you can easily start building your list.

To understand exactly how to participate in a giveaway and take the best of it, I recommend some webinars made by Paul Teague. The links are in the MWA Forum, on a thread called JV Giveaways – For the Newbies. I’m not posting those links here because Paul asked us, fellow students, to keep this links for us as students. I’m sorry if you’re not an Alex Jeffreys student, but I hope that soon Paul Teague will bring these webinars to general public.

So, if you participate in some giveaways with a little success, your list will start to grow and once you reach 100+ subscribers you can then participate in Ad Swaps.

Ad Swaps are events where two marketers promote each other free offers to their list, usually offering again some free product or service that has value for the subscribers. Usually both marketers will have lists of similar size but chances are that a marketer with a bigger list can do a Ad Swap with you, even if he promotes to part of his list.

You can also get a very informative report about Ad Swaps in Gazzman Blog that will help you a lot to understand how it works and how you can benefit from an Ad Swap.

Overall, this strategy seems quite easy to follow: you get or make some nice products or services that you can offer for free, setup a squeeze page, participate in Giveaways to start building your list and then in Ad Swaps to explode list size. With the resources I left above you’ll have no problem with the details.

But, as far as my research went, there are also some pitfalls that you must be aware.

Participating in a Giveaway without any list already can cost you… you’re supposed to do effective promotion of the event to your list, but if you don’t have a list yet, you can be downgraded and it can cost you money. Also you must try to offer something innovative, or at least try to avoid duplicates, because a lot of giveaways don’t allow duplicates, so we can’t just jump all in the same giveaway promoting the PPP. The better is to have your own product, but for me this is something very ahead in my path yet, LOL.

So be wary of the PLR or MRR you get, try to get a real good product that provides real value, otherwise the people that subscribe your list will unsubscribe before you know it. Remember what Alex teaches: always provide real and good value.

Regarding the Ad Swaps, it seems that there had been so many in the last months that everybody that receives an email promoting “my good friend XXX free product” simply delete it and don’t care anymore. So when choosing your ad swap partner try to figure out if he has a responsive list and if he’s been doing a lot of Ad Swaps lately. Otherwise, chances are your emails will be deleted and your list will be part of a list that is constantly spammed.

This is all for today. Tomorrow I’ll post about Blog and Forum Comments. Of course we’ve been doing it in our “blogging community” but it can be a little different when you get out of this Oil Rig and try to swim to another place in the ocean 🙂

Please, leave your comments, I may have said something that is true, I may be completely wrong, I want to hear from you. Also, if you have any experience, good or bad, with any of these strategies, leave your experience here so we all learn.

Hope you enjoyed this post, if you did it motivates to write the following posts for the other strategies.

Cheers

Jorge

    Hey Jorge,
Thats a good overview of things so far.
Its interesting what you mentioned about ad-swaps. I wrote an article that I’ll be putting on E-zine articles called ‘The Death Of Adswaps’.
I’ve noticed recently that my inbox is inundated with people promoting the same stuff. Interestingly, the only ones that get opened are the ones that only e-mail me once in a while. I guess psychologically if you only get an e-mail from someone every now and again, you feel they had a good reason to e-mail you, and it gets opened.
    Keep it up dude.

    Hi Tony
That’s so true. I was following a thread in Warriors Forum where people was discussing how frequently should you mail your list. From twice a day to once a week, all it matters, as far as I can see, is to mail your list and not WHAT are you mailing at your list.
My Inbox continues to receive tens of emails everyday because I’m in several lists and the fact is that I delete the majority of emails just because I know that the sender doesn’t have anything interesting for me.
On the other hand, a marketer I like to read, Stephen Pierce, sends me an email once a month and I always read it with pleasure. That seems to mark a difference, don’t you say?
    Cheers

    Hi Alberto

I must tell you that your “pen name”, Cassandra, left me a little bit suspicious about who you are.
Anyway, after reading your comments I think I know who you are 🙂
Regarding what you say, if you really have that huge amount of targeted traffic you should do something with it. If you don’t know what to sell, maybe you can ask your visitors what they want?

    Cheers

    Jorge
